The Nissan marque has always felt a bit schizophrenic, but in a good way. Building cute Micras on a Monday, sturdy Navaras on a Tuesday, reliable NV200s on a Wednesday and as the weekend approaches the wicked 370Z sportscar on Thursday before going full mental and unleashing Godzilla, the GT-R itself on a Friday. And that’s not mentioning the rest of the gravel-travellers such as the X-Trail, Qashqai and Patrol.

Admittedly we were not chomping at the bits for a go in the Uber-ready Tiida and Sentra of recent years, but that latter nameplate has some real touring car legacy in South Africa. As does the fondly remembered Maxima and Skyline badges, not to mention that SSS moniker. Add to that Nissan’s great performance off-road in events such as the Paris-Dakar Rally and there’s no doubt that there is racing at the heart of Nissan DNA. Add to this a long-standing history of provocative models such as the Fairlady, Silvia, Pulsar, Laurel and um... Cedrick. You get the picture though.

Likes: Excellent reliability, great design and perfectly capable on gravel and asphalt. More of this please.

Dislikes: Nissan needs to give us a good C Segment champion now.
