We’ve recently tested this large multinational company’s KUV100 and Scorpio Pikup, the former being a budget hatchback with delusions of SUVness, and the latter being a rugged double cab that whilst you could accuse it of being somewhat rudimentary in a world where multimedia connectivity is almost as important as ground clearance – it was so full of charm that it had us comparing it to the Land Rover Defender. Indeed, the new Jeep Gladiator seems to have even taken some inspiration from this tremendous utility truck.Even the new XUV500 we recently drove has come on leaps and bounds providing a lot for relatively little.

And on that topic, Mahindra remain the only other manufacturer that can lay official claim to that original Willy’s Jeep legacy with their Thar – take that Fiat Chrysler! Back to the KUV and its less convincing – but it is cheap, and that’s important in India and indeed emerging economies. In South Africa it will struggle somewhat but is in no way a bad prospect. They’ve not been at this for long, 2007 marked their first attempt at a passenger car with the Renault Logan – remember that one?
