Porsche 917 Tribute Concept 2019 Supercar Roundup

The Geneva Motorshow has been upon us. And that means supercars. Lots and lots of supercars!

Part One: Roofless and Ruthless

But first check out these al fresco hammers in velvet gloves from McLaren and Lamborghini

From Lamborghini – the Huracan Evo Spyder and Aventador SVJ Roadster

Lamborghini Huracan Evo Spyder

Lamborghini Aventador SVJ Roadster

While the littler Huracan must make do with ‘just’ 470kW and 600Nm from its 5.2 litre naturally aspirated V10, the mightier Aventador produces 566kW and 720Nm with its V12. So that’s 3.1 seconds to 100kph in the prior and 2.9 in the latter.

Your choice really. We call this win/win. Mind you the Aventador costs about twice as much as the Huracan at around $600,000.

Plus this pair of fiery spiders from Woking, UK – the McLaren 600LT Spider and 720S Spider

More lopped-off goodness in Mad and Extra Mad sizes then

Part Two: Let’s put the lid back on with these

Three manufacturers remind us that you can do ‘ultra exotic’ without resorting to lobbing the roof

The Bugatti ‘La Voiture Noire’

Allow us to introduce to you the most expensive car in the world - a beautifully sculpted one-off that sadly adds a zero to the price tag but does little more than reshape the surface. But still. Just look at it.

Filth. Absolute car pornography.

Revealed, the Ferrari F8 Tributo!

And there’s not much more to report – the design feels derivative, and the turbo V8 engine ditto. Still, while we’ve seen it all before, it remains a very excellent machine – one with 530kW and 770Nm at its bidding to lay waste to its rivals.

Aston Martin Vanquish Vision Concept car

Meet the Vanquish Vision Concept car, and we can’t believe it's taken them this long.

And the main point of distinction here, apart from opting for an aluminium tub as opposed to the Valkrie and 003's carbon fibre, is a mid-mounted engine setup making it quite the rival to the likes of the Ferrari F8 and McLaren 720S.

At its heart will lay the same V6 as that found in the new 003. Power outputs, cubic capacity, aspiration - we know none of this.

“Our first series production rear mid-engined supercar will be a transformational moment for the brand. It is the car that will propel Aston Martin into a sector of the market traditionally seen as the heartland of luxury sports cars.” –  Aston's Andy Palmer

We're just glad it better resembles the chunky 003 and not the levitating leaf design of the Valkyrie.

Wait, there's more...

Porsche 917 Tribute Concept

With styling an obvious riff off the 917 that won Le Mans 50 years ago, the fresh concept was developed by a small team of designers and engineers according to Porsche will remain just a study.

Pity. I would have bought one.

Meet the mental Pininfarina Battista

Yes, and now arriving from the left field, the 1900hp Pininfarina Battista EV Hypercar – due in 2020.

"This is the most authentic and exciting automotive story imaginable. The Battista is the hypercar of the future, inspired by a legendary past. Says Automobili Pininfarina CEO, Michael Perschke. He adds that “it combines true inspiration and innovation in its technical achievement and emotional appeal. Electrification unlocks the door to a new level of performance and a zero-emissions future, whilst a passion and respect for automotive history will define how this landmark car looks and feels. We aim for the Battista to be a future classic and automotive icon, writing its own page in automotive history books."

Well, we’re behind you sir.

Audi R8 V10 Decennium unveiled

In this eclectic company of unobtanium, you’d expect a ‘mere’ Audi to struggle for attention. Yet here we are, biting the back of our collective hand staring at this evocative slice of Ingolstadt – the black and bronze 456kW Audi R8 V10 dubbed the Decennium.

The name celebrates one decade of the Audi supercar.

Koenigsegg Jesko

Here it is - the first 300mph car in the world.

How did they do it? It is powered by a re-designed twin-turbo V8 engine with a new 180-degree flat-plane crankshaft (the world's lightest at just 12.5kg), a new intake with bigger turbos with air injection, and incredibly precise pressure control. This is mated to their 9-speed Light Speed Transmission and depending on what you’ve fueled it with, is capable of 1193kW.

So, fast.
