The South African market has been eagerly awaiting the arrival of the new Volvo XC40 P6 Recharge. The first 25 units brought into the country sold out just 24 hours after launching in the local market.

While the initial allocation for South Africa was just 25 units, the speed at which the R1,07-million fully electric vehicle sold indicates an attitude change among car buyers towards electric vehicles.

The single-motor version of the electric XC40 was available exclusively online through Volvo’s www.myvolvo.co.za website.

Greg Maruszewski, Managing Director at Volvo Car South Africa, believes the overwhelming customer response to the XC40 P6 Recharge is thanks to its favourable price point.

“We were determined to bring in the XC40 P6 Recharge at an attractive price, positioning it as the most affordable all-electric luxury vehicle currently on the market. This has resonated with several South Africans looking to switch to battery-powered vehicles, leading to the P6 selling out even quicker than our twin-motor XC40 P8 Recharge AWD.”

The XC40 P6 Recharge outputs 170 kW and 330 Nm, a competitive single-charge range (up to 423 km), an array of standard equipment and Volvo’s signature suite of safety features. Deliveries will take place later this year.
