It’s official, BMW X7 arrives in South Africa in March 2019. So much car. So much grille. Wow!
To quote Michael Jackson, “you got to be starting something.” And that’s precisely what the Bavarian marque has done here, creating a monolithic flagship with this, the mahoosive BMW X7.
It’s big, bold and brash with enough brightwork to blind the uninitiated. Obviously, it sits above the X5 (and X6) both in terms of dimension and premiumness. That’s 5.151m long, 2m wide, 1.805m tall and with a wheelbase of 3.15m – making for a robust three rows of seating. And if the American dimensions don’t fill you in enough, we can confirm that the X7 will be built in South Carolina, from where it will be shipped around the globe including here in Mzansi early next year.
We can also confirm it will roll around on your choice of 20, 21 or 22 inch alloy wheels, and that you’ll have plenty of access to the weather thanks to a standard-issue panoramic ceiling dubbed the ‘Sky Lounge’.
We’re not going to go into too much detail, simply because there is far too much for a deep dive here – suffice to say it comes with all the mod cons you could dream up and yes, there’ll be M Division embellishments too if that’s what you crave, in a M50d model. Prices to be confirmed, but expect them to be... mahoosive too.
VW Caravelle PanAmericana is no cheap thrill
This is not the people’s bus. More like the coach of the one percenters, but let me explain.
At R955,400.00 it isn’t cheap, in fact it’s just about a million rand Volksiebus. But then it is also a lot, and I mean copious amounts here, of car for your buck.
It has the full title of Volkswagen Caravelle PanAmericana 2.0 BiTDI 132 kW DSG 4Motion and with that are some clues to what lies beneath its stubby bonnet, the marque’s doubly blown two litre diesel good for 132kW and 400Nm divvied between 4 (17 inch) wheels and shifted by a buttery dual-clutch seven-speed auto ‘box.
It naturally comes equipped with a 5-year/60 000km Automotion Maintenance Plan, 3-year/120 000km warranty and 12-year anti-corrosion warranty with service intervals are set at every 15 000 km.
But that’s the boring stuff, the exciting bits are inside – that’s the finely appointed cabin with leather everything, full climate control, stylish appointments hither and thither plus bespoke seats finished in multiple materials including Alcantara. It also features rubber mats for, you know, that outdoor lifestyle you crave.
Add to the visuals items on the exterior such as the odd PanAmericana badge, smoked lamps, and that’s just about the full extent of the most expensive VW that isn’t quite a Touareg.
Porsche Panamera goes full GTS!
That's right, the new instalment of our favourite hyper limo gets the visceral treatment, a GTS badge complete with 338kW and 620Nm. The GTS has always been the purist’s choice – even when applied to non-traditional sports cars like the Cayenne and indeed, the previous iteration of the Panamera.
This one looks to be better than ever, and with a biturbo V8, it all but guarantees it.
Brilliant drone video of a Corvette going full mountain drift!
