It’s 2020 and we’ve just punctured the outer rim of the motoring universe in our pursuit of the latest in news of the four wheeled variety.

  • The BMW i8 to retire in April 2020 with the 20,000th model to come off the line
  • Audi is leaning into its E-Tron badge with new RS and R8 models on the horizon
  • Chinese manufacturer, GWM have spread their dragon wings into India
  • Hyunda and KIA report their lowest profits in seven years

Before we get to The Metal… This just in

Giniel De Villiers, mad South African racing maestro, is currently setting the pace at the 2020 Dakar having won Stage 2 in the Toyota Gazoo Racing Hilux. Ok, back to the new cars.

Did somebody ask for a helicopter, Aston Martin collaboration?

Because here it is, the ridiculously luxurious Airbus ACH130 Aston Martin Edition.

These choppers come in four styles with matching cabins embellished with Aston Martin elements and graphics. That includes iconic Aston Martin wings embossed hither and thither throughout the interior. The design has been a year in the making offering several color schemes including Stirling Green. Other shades include Xenon Grey, Arizona and Ultramarine Black.

Yes, we’re talking about a helicopter.

The Lamborghini Huracan EVO RWD

Sure, we’d like 449kW from our V10 powered Lamborghini Huracan.

And yes, we’d like the front axle decoupled so that all that brazen Italian grunt is sent exclusively to the rear wheels. Yes, our medical insurance details are up to date.

This is a good idea.

Someone has rendered a mid-engined Nissan GT-R and we’re smitten

Calm down (me), nobody’s building this - certainly not Nissan.

And besides if they did, the GT-R would be priced as highly as other exotics from Ferrari and Lamborghini and that would rob it of its competitive edge. But, a boy can dream.

Just look at the damn render above

Suzuki wowed onlookers with a widebody Swift Sport at the 2020 Tokyo Auto Salon

It’s called the Katana, and therefore clearly inspired by their sports bike division. Sadly, the chances of it being put into mass production is pretty much zero, but it sure is fun to look at.

A gallery of things

Someone has fully restored a Lamborghini Cheetah Prototype. That’s just cool

Bisomoto Engineering has produced a world first all-electric Porsche 935, the K3V. We hate to overuse the ‘racecar for the road’ phrase, but this one’s a shocker

Would you buy an electric VW ID.3 in wagon form?

The VW Golf GTI test mule has been spotted boasting a more pronounced spoiler, wider side sills, meatier exhausts and a larger air intake

Infiniti, the luxury arm of Nissan is soon to be the EV arm of said Japanese firm and claim their cars won’t even need to be plugged in to be charged

Still in Yokohama, Nissan is reinvigorating its SUV lineup and the X-Trail is up first for a futuristic restyling
