This week’s crazy concept award goes to the Toyota LQ

Meet the "LQ", a concept car featuring advanced technology designing to "build an emotional bond between car and driver" according to Toyota.

It is essentially the next iteration of the Toyota "Concept-i" first shown at the 2017 Consumer Electronics Show. New tricks include automated driving capabilities and "Yui," a powerful AI designed to learn from the driver and deliver a personalized mobility experience. Well then!

"In the past, our love for cars was built on their ability to take us to distant places and enable our adventures," said LQ development leader Daisuke Ido. "Advanced technology gives us the power to match customer lifestyles with new opportunities for excitement and engagement. With the LQ, we are proud to propose a vehicle that can deliver a personalized experience, meet each driver's unique mobility needs, and build an even stronger bond between car and driver." Sure thing, we’re ready to hand over the keys to the Matrix so sign us up at once.

This new BMW Gran Coupe could be our favourite M8 of them all

It has four doors but doesn’t lose its slippery profile – the Gran Coupe M8 Competition looks mega!

It shares the same glorious M8 underpinnings with outputs measuring 460kW and 750Nm and can sprint to 100kph in just 3.2 seconds. It will do 200kph in 11 seconds and top out at 305kph if you’ve opted for the M Driver’s Pack - or is otherwise limited to 250kph. Subscribe.

Porsche have found a way to avoid congestion. Airplanes!

But they’ve enlisted the help of Boeing, with what will essentially be an eVOTL – that’s an electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft.

This to serve as a premium urban air mobility service – which we’ll agree is pretty far out there. Porsche AG’s Detlev von Platen says, “Porsche is looking to enhance its scope as a sports car manufacturer by becoming a leading brand for premium mobility. In the longer term, this could mean moving into the third dimension of travel. We are combining the strengths of two leading global companies to address a potential key market segment of the future.”

We just think they’re trying to out-Elon Tesla.

Mazda TCR is a winged beauty

Now that’s a modern Mazda we can definitely get behind.

Naturally, it’s a racecar – one with 260kW being sent to its front wheels, with plenty of aero keeping it planted firmly on the blacktop. It will debut in January 2020 at the 4-hour Daytona race in the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge series – and in any one of the 36 championships around the world – since it’s been homologated as a TCR racer.

And on turn 1, too. Sorry. But we had to share.
