5 minutes and 19.564 seconds. What’s that exactly? How about “how long it took, I mean how quickly it took, the Porsche 919 to lap the infamous Nurburgring Nordschleife”
The Porsche What One What Now?
The Porsche This One This. The 919 Tribute is a tribute (obviously) to the hyper-quick 919 EVO hybrid racecar. It was piloted by the meta human named Timo Bernhard on June 29 this year, who on this day managed to decimate the track record in 5’19”! That's not even in the ball park of other race cars or super cars or anything else for that matter.
We recently did a review praising the Civic Type R for doing it under 7min 50 seconds. This is 2 and half minutes quicker! I know. That was a front wheel drive hatch and this is... well, just look at it! A bonafide LMP1 racer with the requisite array of wings, vents, carbon fibre and open wheels.
Not only did it whip all road cars ever, it annihilated the standing record which was set in another Porsche, the legendary 956 in 1983 by Stefan Bellof. He did it in 6’11”. Again I say, not even in the ballpark. At the hands of Timo Bernhard the EVO then went on to defeat the likes of F1 machinery by obtaining another lap record At Spa Francorchamps.
But this isn’t that car. Again this is ‘merely’ the Tribute. Think of it as a somewhat de-tuned street-friendly version with headlamps and you get the idea – which is precisely why you’ll see videos online of its alien shape driving around famous landmarks most recently such as Table Mountain here in the Cape. Other notable urban stopovers include New York, Shanghai and Bangkok.
All the best 919, three Le Mans wins on the trot deserved nothing less.
