Opel has released the Opel Karl - named after the company founder's son Karl – launching in European markets from mid-2015 and to sell for under ERUO 10 000. I'm sure of Adam and Karl would be proud, however, a Ferrari Dino it is not!

The 3.68 metre long city car will be powered by a new 1.0-litre 3-cylinder 55 kW ECOTEC petrol engine which promises to be massively frugal and efficient.

Standard kit looks to be impressive with numerous safety and comfort fitted including standard ESP with traction control, ABS with Electronic Brake-force Distribution and the hill start assist. A Lane Departure Warning system can be had as option as well. So too, park assist and cruise control with speed limiter.

"Short, crisp and full of character - the name Karl reflects its strengths. Opel's new entry-level model is a grown-up car and will appeal to heart and intellect," explained Opel Group CEO Dr. Karl-Thomas Neumann. "Karl offers typical Opel virtues starting with the high-tech, quiet one-liter, three-cylinder engine and by no means ending with our award-winning IntelliLink infotainment system. The Opel Karl is the ideal car for price-conscious customers looking to combine everyday suitability with comfort and modern technologies."

There is no clear indication whether the Opel Karl will be available locally, however with the Adam just being launched locally, we think Opel would be crazy not too.
