“How often do you get to ask, ‘What if we created a GT-R without limits,’ and then actually get to build it?”
Said Alfonso Albaisa, Nissan’s senior vice president for global design.
“This is a rare window in time when two big moments intersect: 50 years of Italdesign shaping the automotive world and 50 years of Nissan generating excitement through our iconic GT-R. So to celebrate this convergence, Nissan and Italdesign created this custom GT-R to mark 50 years of engineering leadership.”
The GT-R50 prototype in fact marks the first collaboration between the two firms, made upon the 2018 GT-R model to commemorate fifty years of both brands. How neat is that? They’re birthday twins! We love the golden skin under that silver coat and how the whole car has gotten flatter thanks to a roofline that has been cut by 54mm.
The samurai slashes Nissan calls cooling outlets on the fenders have been gratuitously enlarged contrasting to the headlamps which are now just futuristic slivers flanking that gaping grille. But what you really came here for is probably the 530kw and 780Nm lurking under that bulging bonnet still from a hand-built 3.8 litre V6, now with GT3 levels of fettling.
Bilstein DampTronic shocks live in each corner of a revised suspension, as do massive BREMBO brake systems (6 pot in front, 4 at the back) whilst Michelin Super Sport tyres have the job of keeping the 21 inch alloys stuck to the road. Want.
