Possibly the most aspirational vehicle on sale today, the variant is dubbed the Range Rover Sport HST and features 30kW more than the current supercharged V6 model. With a firm emphasis on performance, the new HST model also benefits from unique chassis settings and bespoke design features.
Design wise the emphasis is on black or adding more of it, which apparently translates the mechanical performance of the HST into visual drama. Stealth Pack (black) lamps are fitted front and rear and the bonnet, front wing vents, grille and fog lamp bezels all feature a gloss black finish, as well as the ‘Range Rover’ lettering on the tailgate.
A Santorini Black contrasting roof, huge satin grey 21-inch wheels, a red 'Sport' badge out back and unique HST badging on the front wing vents round off the bespoke exterior treatment of the HST derivative. Did we mention they added more black?
In keeping with its performance aspirations, Land Rover’s engineers have equipped the HST with a unique Terrain Response set-up featuring a Dynamic Mode that optimises the suspension, power steering and other electronic systems to suit on-road driving conditions. Stiffer damping and a more responsive throttle pedal, while simultaneously quickening gearshifts and steering response are sure to up the Sport's ante.
Inside, the 'add black' theme continues with the door, centre console and headlining trim finished in ebony. Contrasting with the ebony, customers can choose between four different leather colour options for the two tone seats.
Other interior highlights over other Sport variants include HST badging on the dashboard, carpet mats and instrument panel. The steering wheel mounted paddle-shifters are said to be 'Nobel plated' and pedals are of the 'distinctive bright Sports’ variety.
Upgrades across the range
For the Range Rover Sport owner who actually intends to use their Sport off-road, Land Rover have included an innovative All Terrain Progress Control (ATPC) system. Basically, it's a cruise control system for off-road, allowing the driver to set a speed from an impressively low crawl of 1.8km/h up to 30km/h. Much like cruise control for road applications, drivers only need apply steering input while the electronics sort and optimise traction and drivetrain settings.
ATPC system joins an improved 'Surround Camera System' which now employs a high-resolution camera for crisper graphics and enhanced clarity. 'Rear Junction View' is also now included, which uses the sophisticated camera system to improve rearward visibility when reversing out of parking spots. An integrated washer jet for the rear camera is a cool feature for those post-off-road parking manoeuvres.
Another new feature to the Sport range is a 'Gesture Tailgate' which allows customers to open the tailgate using their feet via sensors in the rear bumper. And lastly, 'Automatic Access Height' automatically lowers the vehicle once parked by as much as 50mm, for improved entry, exit and for loading items in the rear.
New personalisation options include three new paint and seven interior colour options, as well as a 'Carbon Fibre Pack', offering a sporty finish on side vents, tailgate trim, door mirror covers, front grille surround, and fog lamp bezels, with bonnet vents finished in high-gloss lacquer.
