Kia South Africa has boosted – literally and figuratively – the Sonet range with the addition of two turbocharged 1.0 T-GDi engine options.
The new Kia Sonet 1.0 T-GDi options build on the current range and offer a new flagship in EX+ specification.
“The Sonet was one of the most anticipated new Kia models in several years when it came to the South African market in April 2021,” says Stephen Crosse, Sales & Marketing Director, Kia South Africa. “At the time, the global supply chain constraints hampered our efforts to launch Sonet with a broader range of engine and transmission options, but as some of these constraints begin to normalise, our persistent desire to expand the Sonet range has now come to fruition. We are confident that the new turbocharged derivatives will surpass our expectations.”
The new Kia Sonet 1.0 T-GDi is equipped with Kia’s 1,0-litre, 3-cylinder turbo-petrol engine mated with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (7DCT). A new engine in the local Kia stable, the 1.0 T-GDi boasts outputs of 88 kW at 6 000 r/min and 172 Nm of torque from 1 500 r/min – 4 000 r/min.
Feature highlights on the mid-tier EX derivative include 8,0-inch HD touchscreen infotainment with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth with voice control, height-adjustable driver’s seat, leather-trimmed steering wheel and gear shifter, rear-view camera and rear park distance control (PDC).
Electronic Stability Control (ESC), anti-lock braking with EBD, Hill-start Assist Control (HAC) and dual front crash bags form the basis of the safety specification.
The flagship EX+ gains side and curtain crash bags, 2-inch TFT LCD Supervision cluster, artificial leather seats with contrast red stitching, folding power side mirrors, cruise control and drive mode selection.
All Sonet models have an Unlimited Kilometre, 5-year warranty with roadside assistance and a prepaid 4-year / 60 000 km service plan.
