Tesla Roadster Space X Falcon Heavy Launch

New AMG Coupe on the Way, 2018 Megane RS Launched, and Tesla Roadster Launched (in a Rocket!)

One liners:

  • The Hyundai i10 is dead in South Africa. Long live the i10 Grand now in six derivatives.
  • The brand new Toyota Yaris has been launched in SA.

A new AMG coupe is on its way and it's set to be an absolute beast

Something wicked this way comes. A new four-door coupe from AMG dubbed the AMG GT Coupe (creative name, that) has been caught testing. Expect nothing less than 450kW and a bodyshell that looks like a velvet sleeve filled with writhing pythons. Exciting.

Toyota says nope to the Ford Ranger Raptor with a new range of TRD Pro bakkies

But not in South Africa. Not yet anyway as the TRD Pro editions are now earmarked for their left-hand drive models primarily, the Tundra, Tacoma and 4Runner (think American Fortuner). You can't ignore the Hilux forever though so let's see how long till Toyota South Africa twists the arm.

2018 Renault Megane RS is launched!

South African journalists recently got the chance to experience the new Renault Megane RS, France's king of le hatchback, in Jerez Spain. The turbocharged hatch has dropped capacity to 1.8 litres now but doesn't exactly struggle since outputs are now at their highest - 205kW and 390Nm while 0-100kph drops to 5.8 seconds. Cogs are swapped via a 6-speed automatic gearbox and you can pick your RS in Cup or Sport flavours. The prior is the one you want. Unless you don't mind waiting for next year's Trophy model which is set to possess 221kW. The king has returned.

There's a Tesla Roadster circling in the sky

Come on now, we need to talk about this more. Elon Musk may have an estranged relationship with his country of origin, South Africa, but we still can't help idolize a man who has achieved the nerdiest feat in recorded human history. That's launching a convertible sportscar into space via his SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket ship. That he's chucked a mannequin at the helm blasting David Bowie's 'Life on Mars', plus fitted a sign that says DON'T PANIC in reference to one of the greatest Sci-Fi stories ever told (Hitch-hiker's Guide to the Galaxy) is just commendable. The only way he could top it is if we found the body of Stephen Hawking inside that spacesuit. Elon?
