Ian Kettle, Volvo (and XC40) designer is moving to Tesla (Good stock options Ian?) Stop what you’re doing and ogle over the beauty that is the Aston Martin DB4 GT Continuation (Truly, we’re shaken not…). And, the Rolls Royce Luminary series; inspired by earth’s golden hour and reserved for only the most discerning Rolls Royce customer (Discerning = deep pocketed).

Volvo designer moves to Tesla

Turns out that the man who styled the gorgeous XC40, Ian Kettle (great surname by the way), has been poached by the Tesla design team. He’ll be joining Franz von Holzhausen (Tesla’s Chief Designer) and Bernard Lee (manager of exterior design) – to this we say “Hey, it’s not like Teslas weren’t already pretty.”

And on that note, it’s not like we get to see them in South Africa anyway. From our mouths to Musk’s ears.

We need to talk about PAPPPI

And by PAPPPI we mean The People Against Petrol and Paraffin Price Increases (cute name), a Cape Town based group who will be protesting against (obviously) the ridiculous price of fuel in Mzansi.

Visvin Reddy, the group’s national convenor adds,

"Our fuel costs more today than ever before and we are glad that the majority of South Africans are supporting our calls to reduce prices. High fuel prices affect all of us, the poor in particular, through increases in food and transport costs. Our wages and salaries are not going up and life will become unbearable for many people."

To this we at Carshop.co.za say, “He’s right, you know?”

Aston Martin DB4 GT Continuation

Stop what you’re doing and look at this. Now pick up your jaw and listen to Dr Andy Palmer, Aston Martin President and CEO.

"Aston Martin has a rich and vibrant heritage, as you'd expect from a company that has been building some of the world's finest sports cars for 103-years. Of those the DB4 GT stands proud as one of the most coveted of all.”

Yes, we wholeheartedly agree. Now let me shush and give the man a chance to finish…

“It's a mark of Aston Martin's breadth of abilities that in the same year we launched the DB11 - our most advanced 'DB' production car ever - we can also embark on an adventure such as the DB4 GT Continuation. A project that taps into the unique passion and skills that exist within Aston Martin, I'm thrilled we have the imagination and capability to offer 25 enthusiasts the unique opportunity to commission their own piece of Aston Martin history."

We’ll probably never see a DB4 GT Continuation model in the metal flesh – only 25 of these will be made, but gosh, it feels good living in a world where this exists.

The Rolls Royce Luminary series is an automotive light show

Ah, the Rolls-Royce Wraith – the opulent 2-door coupe carved from one of Obelix’s menhirs into an exquisite shape. Yet the British marque found it fit to take 55 of these already breath-taking sculptures and turn them into something even more special, something wholly Bespoke, incidentally the name of the division that gets to further fettle them.

Here designer, Matthew Dunton was invited to run wild with his creativity and presumably the company credit card. The result is stunning. Successfully inspired by and translated from Earth’s golden hour, that moment after the sun has set or before it is about to rise, when the sky is full of pink and yellow and blue.

Mark this one for those with discerning (and stratospherically expensive) tastes.
