VW obliterates the Pikes Peak record with their ID R Racer

Watch the highlights reel above

The full name is a mouthful, the Volkswagen ID R Pikes Peak, an all-electric racer. Piloted by Romain Dumas, the 500kW ID R smashed the course in 7min 57,148sec – breaking the previous record set in 2013 by Sebastien Loeb.

Dr. Frank Welsch of the board of management at Volkswagen Passenger Cars (technical development) had this to say;

“The I.D. R Pikes Peak is the sporty forerunner of Volkswagen’s ID family. Today, we saw what this technology is capable of. Every Volkswagen employee can be extremely proud of today’s result. I congratulate the team from the bottom of my heart. With a combination of outstanding engineering skills, passion and commitment, the team has managed to create a fantastic racing car in just eight months.”

He added that “the Volkswagen ID R Pikes Peak has now set the fastest time in the history of this hill climb, which spans more than 100 years – that speaks volumes for electric mobility.”

#Dieselgate is now but a distant memory, right? Dr Welsch, right?

The new Chevy Blazer is a Camaro on stilts

Don’t look now, but this is the Chevy Blazer of your dreams – a sport car aping behemoth from a manufacturer that has pulled out of South Africa. More’s the pity - this thing looks smoking. Sigh… Next.

The new Toyota Century is a five star luxury brick

If you love Japanese car culture then you’ll appreciate the most luxurious Toyota that isn’t a Lexus. The Century is big, essentially a limousine for old money. And the new one hasn’t exactly broken the mould which is precisely why we still love it, rather a lot.

This is only the third iteration (and ergo second redesign) of the Century since its debut in 1967. Under the tin however beats a V8 hybridised heart, so don’t discount the Century as a product of... well, the last century.

Meet the most exclusive Lambo you’ll see today

Here it is, boasting a rabid puppy aesthetic, the Lamborghini Miura SVR.

Lamborghini Polo Storico completely restored this example of an infamous SVR and debuted it on its delivery date at the Nakayama race circuit in Japan where it has a following, most notably in the Circuit Wolf manga.

Look. We love it. And we realise that shopping trolley wing is meant to be there. Just... not fans, okay?
