F9R Factory Five Racing

We’ve taken the off ramp onto the superhighway of information that is the internet, waded through its teeming traffic of slow- and fast-moving vehicles of stories and snippets to bring you, at this peak hour, the news.

Snippets:

  • The new Mercedes-Benz GLA has officially been launched.
  • The CEO of Opel is feeling optimistic, claims that the firm is already turning a profit since its reinvention.
  • VW revealed their T-Roc cabriolet. A convertible SUV to rival the Evoque?
  • Audi confirms the 441kW RS Q8 is coming to SA. Also, that it can do 305kph!
  • Mercedes have unveiled their Maybach GLS SUV. But we call it the world’s poshest bus
  • Ford USA’s dealership network takes strain as Mustang Mach-E orders commence

The Porsche Macan gets the GTS treatment

The compact SUV from Porsche continues to be a hot little property, especially now that it gets the ‘driver’s car’ spec, a 2.9-litre V6 biturbo engine delivering 280kW (15kW up) and a top speed of 261kph. Zero to hundred comes up in just 4.7 seconds with the optional Sport Chrono Package.

The rorty sports exhaust comes standard.

Jaguar has re-sculpted the front of the F-Type

I don’t know who asked for this, but it is dramatic, almost reminiscent of its saloons. It features super-slim pixel LED headlamp clusters for that Clint-Eastwood-staring-into-the-sun look, larger grille.

Its fine. We guess.

Who is Factory Five Racing and how did they give us this?

Meet the F9R, a very exciting sliver of metal and carbon. You’ll like the fact that it makes 520kW and 950Nm. You’ll love that it makes these numbers with a great big 9.5 litre V12 engine - and that it weighs just 1088kg for what will ultimately be stratospheric performance.

No prices or performance stats from this small US firm, but I’m going to make a prediction here real quick. Real quick.

Then there was the Karma SC2 Concept

It’s yet another teardrop shaped arrow constructed from Unobtanium, electrified to the magnificent tune of 800kW and a theoretical wheel torque of 14,000Nm. This one comes with a figure; 0-100kph in 2 seconds dead.

So that’s pretty great.

Suzuki Swift Extreme Concept

Well, it’s just that – a concept, but that hasn’t detracted from the fiery reception it’s gotten online. It’s a Suzuki Thailand creation and ultimately being teased for that market. And as far as we can tell the improvements don’t extend beyond its wild bodykit.

But here’s hoping.

We are getting closer to the McLaren T.50

What’s got 480kW and weighs just 980kg? Ok, I’ve already given the answer, but still, when it’s a product of Gordon Murray, the world takes note. And if you think 480kW is modest, keep in mind that this is non-assisted power.

A non-turbo V12 serves as the heart of this heavily refined aerodynamic wunderkind, and will rev to a lofty 12,000rpm. They’re only building 100 of these and will sell them at £2 million a pop. If they’re not already sold, that is.

It’s unique selling point aside from a ridiculous price tag? Try the fact that it has a massive 400mm ground effects fan in its belly.
