One Liners:
- It’s been rumoured that Ford will be the next manufacturer to dip their plugs into the racing realm that is Formula E.
- Grand West Casino hosted the second annual Cape Town Motor Show and we’re happy to report it’s growing into quite the showcase.
- The new(ish) hybrised Honda NSX supercar has been spotted testing in the Drakensberg. What does it mean? Perhaps nothing but let’s hope the Japanese brand are feeling brave and considering bringing it at last.
1) Nobody likes the R20mil McLaren Senna
It’s almost uncanny how much hatred there is towards the new British Hypercar. Yet it has the name of the most beloved racing driver ever tacked onto its carbon fibre body, and thanks in part to a 4.0 V8 rated just shy of 600kW promises to be blistering as all hell. No, the one and only reason it’s ruffling feathers is because of its appearance. An overworked, over-designed implosion in an aero factory tinsled with unobtanium. Personally, we’re happily to turn a blind eye for a go in what will surely be the fastest machine on the planet. Form over function hey?
2) Mercedes-AMG GT Concept teased one last time
In an utter display of coyness Mercedes-AMG are yet again teasing the production version of their four-door ‘GT Concept’. It was iinitially revealed at Geneva last year but here it is again – the saloon derivative GT sports car just ahead of its official-official March 8th debut. Just get on with it, AMG.
3) New Supra – are we there yet?
Look, we’re just moments away from the opening of the Geneva Motor Show – you’re going to have to brace yourself for an onslaught of new metal and information. Here’s one now for example, a photograph taken of the new Toyota Supra but, and this part is critical, in racecar guise if the evidence is true. What evidence? Well, we refer to the Gazoo racing livery, centre locking wheel nuts, Michelin slicks and a wing big enough to give Boeing envy. Wherever will they race this?
4) Let’s talk about car sales
And the VW power duo have surprised literally nobody by occupying top spots this month, that’s the new Polo and new Polo Vivo. The demand for these cars is just staggering but still the Toyota Hilux leads by shifting 3369 bakkies. How very South African. Meanwhile Suzuki is continuing its hard charge from the bottom with a 94% increase in sales compared to the same month last year. Good, we’ve never quite understood why the Swift doesn’t place higher up and the new Ignis is a loveable little tyke that just so happens to be a great urban roundabout to boot.
