The new Mercedes-Benz eSprinter is available in various configurations, including a panel van, crew van, and chassis cab.

Mercedes-Benz Vans will be launching the new Sprinter in local markets in 2024. The fully electric offering conforms to the company’s stated intent to move all its products to electric power.

The vehicle is powered by a 55-kWh lithium-ion battery pack that provides a range of up to 150 kilometres on a single charge, making it suitable for urban delivery routes and other short-distance applications.

The eSprinter is rechargeable in several ways, including fast charging, which can provide an 80% charge in just 45 minutes. Additionally, a 7.2 kW onboard charger provides extra charging options, allowing it to be charged at a standard household socket overnight.

“The new Mercedes-Benz eSprinter consistently follows our strategy - to be the leader in electric mobility with the most desirable vans while achieving profitable growth worldwide.” Mathias Geisen, Head of Mercedes-Benz Vans.

Customers can choose between three batteries (a battery with a usable capacity of 56, 81 or 113 kilowatt hours), depending on payload requirements. Lithium/iron phosphate (LFP) cell chemistry keeps the battery variants free of cobalt and nickel, while active thermal management ensures maximum efficiency.

“As we embark on a new era of sustainable mobility, we are proud to announce that the eSprinter will arrive in South Africa by 2024. This vehicle will offer a game-changing solution for businesses and individuals looking for a cost-effective, environmentally friendly mode of transportation. This marks a significant milestone in our commitment to creating a more sustainable future for all." Nadia Trimmel, President of Mercedes-Benz Vans South Africa.

The eSprinter is available in various configurations, including a panel van, crew van, and chassis cab. The panel van, for example, is ideal for city deliveries, while the crew van is perfect for transporting people and equipment. Whereas, chassis cab, on the other hand, is suitable for businesses who want to fit the eSprinter with custom bodies for specific applications.

The electric drivetrain also provides the eSprinter with smooth and silent operation, which is ideal for use in urban areas where noise pollution is a concern.

One of the standout features of the eSprinter is its spacious and versatile interior. The vehicle is available in two body lengths (compact and long) and two roof heights (standard and high), allowing for a wide range of load capacities. The eSprinter can accommodate loads of up to 3 500 kg and provides up to 11 cubic meters of cargo space. The vehicle also features some storage compartments and practical features such as an overhead storage shelf, making it easy to organise and transport goods.

Regarding safety, the eSprinter is equipped with many advanced systems to protect the driver and passengers. These include front and side crash bags and diverse driver assistance systems such as lane departure warnings and adaptive cruise control. Additionally, the eSprinter is equipped with a high-visibility reversing camera, making it easier to manoeuvre in tight spaces.

Navigation with ‘Electric Intelligence’ ensures the greatest possible planning certainty - for example, it shows the current range in real time depending on the present traffic situation and the route topography. It also calculates the best possible charging strategy to get to the destination as quickly as possible or to have the desired state of charge (SoC) at the destination.

Authentication at the charging station is simple via MBUX, with payment via Mercedes me. Other highlights include increased performance, extensive personalisation options and optimisations of the ‘Hey Mercedes’ voice control assistant.
