Revised Mercedes Benz GLB

Mercedes-Benz has pumped up the proportions of the updated GLB with a wheelbase of 2 829 millimetres, some 10 cm longer than the new B-Class.

The car is 4 634 millimetres long, 1 834 millimetres wide, and 1 659 millimetres high, meaning the headroom in the first seat row is 1 069 millimetres. The legroom in the rear (967 millimetres) is suitable for taller folk, and the boot compartment capacity of 570 to 1 805 litres means it can take more than just one golf bag.

Power and performance

Power comes from significantly revamped four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines that offer improved power, efficiency, and emissions.

The Mercedes-Benz GLB comes in a 250 and 220d 4MATIC models. The GLB 250 2,0-litre engine produces 165 kW at 5 500 r/min with peak torque of 350 Nm available from 1 800 r/min, allowing a 7,1-second sprint to 100 km/h and claimed consumption of 8,47 l / 100 km.

Consumption for the diesel engine is at 6,4 l/100 km.

The GLB 35 4MATIC is a turbo-charged 2,0-litre four-cylinder engine that develops 225 kW and drives through an AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT 8G transmission and variable AMG Performance 4MATIC all-wheel drive.

A grand design with improved technology and functionality

"Its iconic and bold look lends the Mercedes-Benz GLB an unmistakable SUV character," says Mark Raine, President of Mercedes-Benz Cars, and Co-CEO of Mercedes-Benz South Africa. “The powerful proportions of the GLB design with its off-road orientation, combined with its luxurious value perception and a high degree of digitalisation, makes it the perfect versatile lifestyle SUV. The obvious SUV genes and striking similarities to the G-Wagon are undeniable and give the GLB the ‘GNA’ inherited from the Godfather of all SUVs.”

Changes to the interior include the characteristic off-road tubular element in an aluminium look, and naturally, it comes with a full suite of connectivity features.

On the all-wheel-drive variant, an animation of the driving situation is available on the media display. The realistic presentation of gradient, inclination angle and technical settings helps the driver judge manoeuvres correctly.

Vice President for Marketing and Sales at Mercedes-Benz Cars, Selvin Govender, announced the introduction of a special limited edition of the Mercedes-AMG GLB 35 4MATIC, saying: “The Mercedes-AMG GLB 35 4MATIC offers incredible speed to match its practical three-row package, luxurious interior, off-road capabilities, and all-round versatility.”
