The competition is open to all vehicles in the German market, regardless of where their origins are. A panel of experts comprising 19 automotive journalists from leading German car magazines handle the judging process at the event.
The Alfa Romeo Giulia has been a regular winner in the competition since its launch in 2016. Its first victory came in 2017 when it was named the best car in the executive and mid-size groups and again in 2018 in the luxury and premium class. In 2019, Giulia reclaimed the mid-size and executive categories. It repeated the feat in 2020, making it four consecutive wins. With its latest victory, the car has won the award a record six times.

Power comes from two potent engines, including a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 208 kW and a 2,9-litre twin-turbo V6 engine with 376 kW output.
