The Next-Generation Ford Ranger Double Cab has been exceptionally well-received thanks to its bold styling, outstanding comfort and refinement, exceptional safety, and superb performance. On the back of that success, Ford has started production of the practical Ranger Single Cab and spacious SuperCab models.

The Wildtrak nameplate, synonymous with double cab luxury in the Ford Ranger stable, is now added to extended cab variants as new Ranger single cab and SuperCab variants join the fray.

“The Next-Generation Ford Ranger Double Cabs have been exceptionally received thanks to the bold styling, outstanding comfort and refinement, exceptional safety and superb performance,” says Doreen Mashinini, General Manager of Marketing at Ford South Africa.

Ford Ranger Single Cab

Ford is expanding the range with the start of production of the practical Ranger Single Cab and spacious SuperCab models to cater for business operators.

The range is available in XL or more upmarket XLT specifications. Additionally, the extensive range of Upgrade Packs on the Ranger Double Cab allows owners to personalise their vehicles with a wide range of cosmetic and functional enhancements according to their unique requirements and applications.

A noteworthy addition is the introduction of the SuperCab body style to the exclusive Wildtrak series, giving buyers the choice of a luxuriously appointed vehicle with all of the high-tech safety and comfort features reserved for double cab models.

The Ford company is planning a further expansion of the range to cater for the entry-level workhorse segment too, where affordability and low running costs are the absolute priority.

Capitalising on the front-end looks of the new Ranger, the single cab and Super Cab versions have a more upright front grille with a powerful horizontal grille bar, signature C-clamp headlight treatment and shoulder line with pronounced wheel arches.

10,1 inches in the XL and XLT models or 12 inches on the Wildtrak

With a wheelbase that is 50 mm longer and a 50mm wider track compared to the previous Ranger, the layout allows for improved design and packaging, providing seamless airflow to the radiator to keep the engine temperature low when towing or carrying heavy loads. It also frees up space for an auxiliary battery in the engine bay, should this be required.

The Ranger is now also 50 mm wider, allowing the cargo box to accommodate a standard European pallet between the wheel arches (up to 1 224 mm), while the load box length runs up to 2 305 mm on the single cab models. The payload capacity ranges from 964 kg to 1 186 kg, depending on the model.

The load bed design allows customers to create their DIY organisation and storage solutions. On the Wildtrak SuperCab, equipped with a drop-in bedliner as standard, pockets in the cargo box sidewalls allow owners to use wood planks to create compartments in the bed or build a two-tier loading surface.

Inside the cabin, depending on the variant, an 8-inch customisable digital instrument cluster enables switching between various layouts showing driver-assist technologies, off-road information, tachometer on or off, extra gauges, vehicle settings and even a ‘Calm View’ that only displays essential vehicle information.

The centre touchscreen, which incorporates Ford’s SYNC 4A connectivity and entertainment system, measures 10,1 inches in the XL and XLT models or 12 inches on the Wildtrak.

Ranger XLT models flaunt push-button selectable drive modes comprising Normal, Eco, Tow/Haul and Slippery. On the Wildtrak, a rotary dial activates six drive modes, including the additional Mud & Ruts and Sand settings.

Basic safety and convenience features (in all models) include Dynamic Stability Control incorporating anti-lock braking, Load Adaptive Control, Roll Over Mitigation, Traction Control, Hill Launch Assist and Trailer Sway Control.

The 4x4 models gain Hill Descent Control, with cruise control standard on XLT models and optional on XL.

Ford Ranger Super Cab

The Wildtrak gets Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Lane Centering, Evasive Steer Assist, Reverse Brake Assist and Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS). Also standard on the Wildtrak is Lane Keeping System with Road Edge Detection, Blind Spot Monitor with Trailer Coverage, Cross Traffic Alert, Post-Collision Braking and Pre-Collision Assist (with Dynamic Brake Support, Forward Collision Warning, and Autonomous Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection).

The new models are all powered by either the 2,0-litre Single Turbo or Bi-Turbo four-cylinder engines and

Single Turbo unit is common to all XL Single Cab models and three XL SuperCab derivatives. It produces 125 kW and 405 Nm and is available with a new-generation six-speed manual gearbox or the latest-spec six-speed automatic – and a choice of 4x2 or electronic shift on the fly 4x4 systems.

The 2,0-litre Bi-Turbo engine is exclusive to the SuperCab 4x4 models in the XLT or Wildtrak trim levels. This engine delivers 154 kW and 500 Nm of torque with 10-speed automatic transmission.
