There is no word on what the special edition ‘slice of history’ models will cost, but you can be sure if you have to ask then you probably can’t afford either of them.
Traditionalists will literally be drooling over the Heritage Edition model which doffs its cap at the original pre-production Series I ‘Huey’ of 1947. Why Huey? His number plate, of course, which reads HUE 166.
With its Grasmere Green metallic paintwork, and similarly colour steel wheels. Yep, steel, no alloy wheel malarkey here, the Heritage Edition is a sight to behold, and if you’re a Defender aficionado then you’ll surely appreciate the Alaska White roof, heritage style grille, and headlamp surrounds.
Other nostalgic additions include the silver front bumper with black end caps while clear indicator lenses and Indus Silver door hinges further set the Heritage Edition apart. So too do the body-coloured wheel arches and mudflaps bearing the Heritage logo.
Available in both 110 and 90 body configurations, South Africa will receive 130 and 50 units respectively.

If the Heritage Edition is a little too old school, the perhaps the similarly special Adventure Edition is more up your mountain?
Said to be designed for customers who want to explore, a more accurate description would be, “for customers who want to shout about their arrival…” up a mountain or sand dune etc, as the Adventure Edition is in polar opposites to the toned down ‘stock’ Heritage Edition.
Available in three exclusive colours, Corris Grey, Yulong White and Phoenix Orange, with all colours receiving contrasting Santorini Black paint for the grille and its surround, the bonnet, roof and rear door, plus the headlamp surrounds and wheel arches.
Seven-inch LED projector headlamps, clear front indicators and gloss black diamond-turned alloy wheels are also sure to turn heads in the mud (will they ever?).
Premium seats with Windsor Leather upholstery are available in four different colours, and feature perforated leather inserts and contrasting stitching. Offset by a leather-trimmed steering wheel, gear knob and handbrake lever and aluminium interior trim, the Adventure Edition is as striking on the outside as it luxurious (for a Defender) on the inside.
Likely to be less desirable as the Heritage Edition, 15 of the Adventure model will be be made available in the 90 body style, and 20 in the 110 station wagon body style.
