South africa is firmly on the radar to become the first country on the continent to launch the new Omoda, the luxury brand from Chinese automaker Chery.
South Africa will join several countries globally, including South America, Asia, Europe and Australia, on the list of countries to welcome the new Omoda C5 in mid-April in 30 pre-selected dealers covering all major metros and cities.

Each dealer, with dedicated diagnostic and support services, has been pre-selected to offer a dedicated range of sales and support services to Omoda customers.
“Omoda is a new, modern and luxurious vehicle brand that showcases what can be done when a brand is not hindered by legacy technology or design,” says Tony Liu, the Executive Deputy General Manager of Chery South Africa.
Every aspect of the product, from design, performance, technology and driving pleasure, will surprise and delight South African Chery customers.
The name Omoda emanates from a competition that saw more than 10 000 entries from 30 countries where entrants tried to capture the spirit of a new brand that aims to redefine motoring. And Omoda emerged as the chosen name.

Making up the name Omoda is the O for oxygen, new life and vitality and the term ‘Moda’, refers to the modern and fashion-forward characteristics of the new brand.
Design aesthetics include a rounded glasshouse with imperceptible edges and lines, a wedge-shaped roofline that flows from the bonnet to the pinched rear quarter and the use of thin, arrow-shaped head and tail lamps with next-generation intelligent LED illumination.
“The Omoda C5 looks like nothing else on the market. Its design, both inside and out, has been untethered from tradition and offers something fresh and unique,” says Liu.
To introduce Omoda to South Africa, the Chery team has created an entire O-Universe for customers, known as Omoders.
As part of the O-Universe, Omoders gain access to O-Fashion, O-Life, O-Lab and the O-Club.
