Fiat’s cute-as-a-button 500 has taken strides toward the growing global trend towards SUV-styled vehicles with the new, bigger 500X.
The new Sport EST model is defined by its extended soft top allowing open-air motoring at the touch of a button. The electrically operated folding system takes 15 seconds to open virtually the entire roof area of the 500X Sport.
The 775 mm x 730 mm opening can be activated at speeds up to 100 km/h and features a one-touch opening, while it closes in two steps.
Along with the standard closed roof model, 500X Sport models get body-coloured wheel arch mouldings, side skirts, 19-inch wheels, a techno leather and Alcantara steering wheel and a titanium-styled finish on the dashboard along with a 3,5-inch TFT colour cluster.
The Fiat 500X Cross come with roof rails and skid plates along with black mirror caps and runs on 18-inch wheels. Also, standards are a soft touch steering wheel, courtesy light on the sun visor and automatic dual-zone air-conditioning.
Power comes from Fiat’s 1,4-litre direct injection petrol engine, offering 103 kW at 5 000 r/min and 230 Nm at 1 750 r/min and is available across the range in a fully automatic six-speed DDCT transmission. Claimed fuel consumption is 5,7 l/100 km on a combined cycle.
The infotainment system boosts connectivity with a Uconnect 7-inch HD touchscreen with navigation offering a wide range of functions, including a hands-free system, Bluetooth technology, and voice recognition with Apple CarPlay integration and Android Auto compatibility.
With six crash bags as standard, the Fiat 500X also offer daytime running lights – inspired by the zero in the 500 logo – along with anti-lock braking, Electronic Stability Control and hill hold.
