Ingolstadt has finally delivered the absolutely most optimal way to terrify your Labrador. And your neighbours too.

And what a bastard it is, this fourth gen brute bristling with a twin-turbo four litre V8 powerplant.

Its razor-edged skin is pumped up and muscley, squatting on 21-inch alloys and looking sharp thanks to slender headlamps borrowed from the A7. It’s wider too, obviously thanks to dramatically flared and blistered wheel arches and these are all unsubtle clues to the performance herein.

Zero to hundred can be smashed in just 3.6 seconds. 200Kph? You can do that in under 12 seconds. Top speed is limited to 250kph but you can raise this to 305kph if you opt for the Dynamic Package Plus. Opt for it. That’s what you can achieve when you have 100kW and 200Nm more than the RS5 at your disposal, now tallying at 441kW and 800Nm. In a bloody wagon!

Oliver Hoffmann, Audi Sport GmbH’s MD says, "Throughout our 25-year RS history, the Audi RS6 Avant is one of our absolute icons with a large global fan base." Not that matters to RS blessed South Africans but he added that Audi, "Will also be offering the RS6 Avant in North America for the very first time. As such, we will be tapping into a new market with huge potential and generating further growth." Well, good for them – we just need the world to buy them all up as we live in fear of estate cars, especially silly ones like this, suffering a decline.

Naturally, the Ingolstadt hammer is a smart device too, with cylinder deactivation, lithium ion power recovery, driving modes, launch control and an incredibly advanced all-wheel drive system. And even if it didn’t, just look at it! Who wouldn’t want the most mental RS wagon ever produced – lower, wider, louder and faster than all that’s come before it?

It comes with all the smartphone connectivity, modern conveniences and luxury appointments you could possibly hope for, can be had in thirteen colours, including the two RS-specific colours Nardo Grey and Sebring Black finished in optional crystal effect along with a choice of five matt effect paint finishes.
